Wernerkapelle

Church "Wernerkapelle" in Bacharach

The "Chapel of Werner" was built in the 13th century above Church Sankt Peter. The building was completed 1426 because of "Dr. Winand von Steeg" who was the priest of Bacharach from 1421 to 1438. The chapel was destroyed in parts in 1689 when french troops blew up the castle Stahleck high above Bacharach. Today the chapel ruin is a symbol for "Rhine- Romanticism".
