The "Kaiser Wilhelm" monument is situated at the German Corner in Koblenz at the confluence of the rivers rhine and mosel. The 37 meter high monument was built up in 1897.
After the destruction in World War II the pedestal served as a memorial for the German Unity from 1953 to 1990. Based on plans of "Bruno Schmitz", the famous architect of many other monuments, the reconstruction of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument took place in 1993. The sculptor was "Emil Hundrieser".
Today the German Corner with its monument is a top tourist attraction and a perfect place for great events like the "Mittelrhein-Marathon" or the famous "rhine-in-flames" festival. During the FIFA Worldcup in 2006 it was a public viewing place, where football fans from all over the world came to party and watch the matches.
