The walk starts from the castle Burg Klopp in Bingen. We move off in the direction of the main railway station and cross the bridge over the river Nahe at Bingerbrück. We continue on the Bundesstraße B9, keeping to the right until we reach the Prinzenkopfstraße on the left which leads uphill through a wood to the Prinzenkopf viewpoint to enjoy the magnificent view of Rüdesheim, Bingen, the Mäuseturm and Castle Ehrenfels.
From here a narrow path leads to the Forsthaus Heilig Kreuz. Behind the building we follow the trail through the wood and traverse the Poßbachtal until we reach the Schweizerhaus from where we have a beautiful view of Assmannshausen. We continue on the Eselsweg (donkey track) until we arrive at Castle Burg Rheinstein, passing a viewpoint tower. After a visit to the castle the path leads downhill to a trail in the forest. Keeping to the right, we descend on a narrow and sometimes rocky path to the Morgenbachtal. We continue along a brook in the direction of the Rhine. On the B9 we keep to the left where a winding trail leads through iron gates to the castle Reichenstein. Then we follow the road downhill to Trechtingshausen.
