Starting in Bacharach and passing the Werner Chapel we ascend to Burg Stahleck. Up from the Castle we cross over the road and take the path, leading through forest, vineyards, coppice and meadows to the idyllic town of Steeg with its majestic part timbered buildings. We follow the Rheinburgenweg, rambling around castleruin Stahlberg and passing through vineyards further up the Steeger valley, which offers scenic views of Bacharach. From the Rheinplateau we walk across fields and pastures towards Oberwesel. From here we catch glimpses of Kaub with its Castle Gutenfels on the opposite side and Burg Pfalzgrafenstein situated in the Rhine. We continue our trail, passing several viewpoint huts, - the Sauzahn (pig’s tooth) and Pfalzblick - , then traversing the Engebachtal, passing through vineyards, we cross the Kreisstraße 90 and hey presto, we have arrived at our destination, the castle Schönburg situated above Oberwesel.
