The Rheinsteig trail through the Romantic Rhine Valley is in a class of its own, taking in castles, vineyards and the Loreley rock
(rpt) After a leisurely section through lush meadows, you climb a narrow path uphill, and this is when the first beads of sweat appear on walkers' brows. But as soon as you reach the top of the hill your efforts are more than rewarded with a view of the romantic Rhine valley laid out at your feet like a vast painting waiting to be admired. Keen walkers can enjoy this stunning scenery on the Rheinsteig trail, Germany's top-class walking trail...

You stay overnight in walker-friendly accommodation in one of the pretty Rhine villages where the evening meal is bound to include regional specialities and a fine wine grown on the steep vineyards of the Middle Rhine Valley.
The marked trail runs for 320 spectacular kilometres on the eastern bank of the Rhine from Wiesbaden in the south to Bonn in the north. The route has been designed so that the best places of interest can be included, whilst experienced hikers still find it challenging enough. Narrow paths take walkers through dense woodland, up rocky gorges and steep vineyards to amazing vantage points and cultural sites. In the Upper Middle Rhine Valley alone there are forty castles, palaces and fortifications between Bingen and Koblenz, an unparalleled region which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2002.

The Middle Rhine Valley is only 30 minutes from Hahn airport and shuttle busses runs several times a day, e.g. to Koblenz.
