Church "Liebfrauenkirche" in Koblenz

The "Liebfrauenkirche" church is the baptistery and mother church of Koblenz since the 5th century. The current building was started in 1180 and completed in the mid 13th century.
1404 - 1431 building of the gothic choir. Destruction in 1944 and rebuilding in 1950.
Renovation from 1971 to 1974. Restoration inside in 2000.
Well worth seeing are the beautiful window panes.

 

Monument "Rittersturz" near Koblenz

From the "Rittersturz" monument above Koblenz you have fantastic views down to city, the football stadium, the hall "Oberwerth"... History: The "Rittersturz-Conference" with the 11 German Prime Ministers took place from 08. - 10. July 1948 at the former Berghotel above Koblenz. Topic of the conference were the "Frankfurter Dokumente" given to West Germany by the western powers to make clear the conditions for the state foundation. The decision was made to create the "Grundgesetz" (Basic Constitutional Law), and to unify the three Western Occupation Zones separating from the Sowiet Occupied Zone...

 

Monument of Kaiser Wilhelm I at the German Corner in Koblenz

The "Kaiser Wilhelm" monument is situated at the German Corner in Koblenz at the confluence of the rivers rhine and mosel. The 37 meter high monument was built up in 1897.
After the destruction in World War II the pedestal served as a memorial for the German Unity from 1953 to 1990. Based on plans of "Bruno Schmitz", the famous architect of many other monuments, the reconstruction of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument took place in 1993. The sculptor was "Emil Hundrieser".
Today the German Corner with its monument is a top tourist attraction and a perfect place for great events like the "Mittelrhein-Marathon" or the famous "rhine-in-flames" festival. During the FIFA Worldcup in 2006 it was a public viewing place, where football fans from all over the world came to party and watch the matches.

 

Monument "Kaiserin Augusta" in Koblenz

The German empress "Kaiserin-Augusta" from "Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach" engaged the prussian horticulturists "Peter-Joseph Lenné" and "Hermann Fürst von Pückler-Muskau" to arrange and design the left rhine riverbank in Koblenz. Many art monuments edged the 3,5 kilomerters long promenade, but most of them were destroyed in World War II...
