Church "Rochuskapelle" in Bingen

Pilgrimage Church "St. Rochus-Kapelle" in Bingen.
Built in 1666 after the year of "Black Death".
Destroyed in 1795 during the french occupation of the rhine valley.
Rebuilding in 1814 after epidemic typhus.
Destroyed again by a stroke of lightning in 1889.
Neo-Gothic rebuilding by Max Meckel in the years 1893–1895.
The last two weekends in August the "Rochusfest" is celebrated 8 days long.

 

Church "St.Martin" Basilica in Bingen

The church St. Martin in Bingen - built on the ruins of a roman temple - was first mentioned as a collegiate church in 1006 and resolved in 1672.
St.Martin burned down in 1403 and only the crypt endured and was integrated in the later rebuilding in 1416. The side aisles were built in the following years. Partly damaged in World War II the rebuilding was finished 1958.

Benedictine Abbey "St.Hildegard" is located in the vinyards high above Rüdesheim.
It offers an abbey shop, meditation exercises and retreats with accommodation.

Church "Clemenskapelle" in Trechtingshausen

Die Clemenskapelle in Trechtingshausen
Die ehemalige Pfarrkirche St. Clemens liegt unterhalb der Burg Reichenstein unmittelbar am Rheinufer am Friedhof. Früher lag sie wohl direkt im Ort, der wegen Hochwassergefahr in einen höher gelegenen Bereich verlegt wurde. Sie gilt als südlichster Bau der niederrheinischen Romanik und dient heute als Friedhofskirche. Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts wurde sie als dreischiffige Pfeilerbasilika errichtet. Funde legen nahe, dass hier schon seit dem 4. Jahrhundert eine Kirche stand...

 

Church "Wernerkapelle" in Bacharach

The "Chapel of Werner" was built in the 13th century above Church Sankt Peter. The building was completed 1426 because of "Dr. Winand von Steeg" who was the priest of Bacharach from 1421 to 1438. The chapel was destroyed in parts in 1689 when french troops blew up the castle Stahleck high above Bacharach. Today the chapel ruin is a symbol for "Rhine- Romanticism".
