Castle Stolzenfels was built 1242 - 1259.
First it was occupied 1632 by the Swedes and then 1634 and 1646 for 2 years by the French.
1689 the French destroyed the castle - as almost all the castles in the rhine valley - during the war (Pfälzischer Erbfolgekrieg). 1826 - 1830 Stolzenfels was rebuilt by Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Queen Victoria visited Stolzenfels in 1845.
