Castle Stahleck - Germanys' most beautiful youthhostel.
Built about 1100 the first owner of the castle was "Goswin von Stahleck". Then his son "Herrmann von Stahleck" lived here.
1689 destroyed by the french the castle became a ruin for a long time.
The architect Ernst Stahl was responsible for the rebuilding maintaining the ruin-character. The youthhostel started 1925. Although castle Burg Stahleck is quite "new" it is one of the oldest castles in the middlerhine valley.
Today you can sit down on the castle-patio, having a drink and snack and enjoy the fantastic panoramic views.
